Build something that matters.

We don’t hire people to fill seats. We hire people who want ownership, solve hard problems, move fast, and can point to what they actually changed. If that sounds like you, there’s a lot to build here.

The people who do their best work here.

Vert works best for people who think independently, learn fast, move with urgency, and care about the outcome. We give good people room to run, but that comes with a high bar for ownership, effort, accountability, and results.

  1. Put Vert First

Optimize for the company, not your silo. Help the team win even when the best answer creates more work for you or your department.

  2. Innovate or Die

Improve the process instead of accepting friction. Automate what should be automated, simplify what can be simplified, and leave the system better than you found it.

  3. Nothing Is Impossible

Obstacles are problems to solve, not excuses to stop. Take risks, experiment, follow up, escalate, and keep moving until you find a way.

  4. Own Your Mistakes

Mistakes happen. Own them quickly, fix the issue, and change the process so the same mistake does not happen twice. We would rather see a thoughtful attempt fail than no attempt at all.

  5. Radical Candor

Say the hard thing clearly and respectfully. Share your real opinion, challenge ideas directly, admit when you are wrong, and do not let problems hide behind politeness.

  6. KPI-Focused

Use data first. We track the numbers, review them openly, and make decisions from evidence whenever evidence is available. Results matter, and we expect you to know yours.

How work actually gets done.

Most of Vert is remote, with our engineering team based in the Los Angeles area. We typically work on Pacific Time with reasonable flexibility, but this is not a clock-in, clock-out culture. Effort matters. Responsiveness matters. Results matter. Today we are a 30-person team, 17 years into the business, serving more than 5,000 properties. Vert is at roughly $7M in annual revenue, growing at approximately 46%, with profit up 366% compared with 2024.

Own the Outcome

Your responsibility does not end where someone else’s begins. If a blocker threatens the result, follow up, escalate, solve around it, or find another path.

Earn Autonomy

The goal is to move from needing direction to handling it. As your judgment and trust grow, so does your freedom to make the call.

Data Over Ego

We use KPIs, scorecards, and real results to tell us what is working. Feedback is information, not an insult.

Decision-making
Different roles require different levels of approval, but the direction is always toward autonomy. The best operators learn to make the call, own the outcome, and keep management informed at the right level.
Accountability
You own the result, not just your assigned task. If you are waiting on someone, follow up. If something is stuck, escalate. If the deadline is at risk, solve it. ‘I was waiting on someone else’ is not where ownership ends.
Communication
Direct, candid, and low-drama. You can disagree with leadership, say you do not understand something, or admit a mistake publicly. We would rather hear the uncomfortable truth early than the polished version late.
Performance expectations
We look at both effort and outcomes. KPIs and scorecards are reviewed weekly and monthly, with formal performance reviews each quarter. If results miss once, we help diagnose the problem. If they keep missing after expectations and support are clear, this probably will not be the right fit.
Where we work
Most roles are remote and can be based anywhere that works with our Pacific Time schedule. Engineering is local to the Los Angeles area. Typical working hours are around 8–5 or 9–6 PT, with reasonable flexibility by role. Some positions also require reasonable after-hours responsiveness when something important needs attention.
Transparency by Default
We share the numbers. Revenue, margin, KPIs, goals, wins, and misses are not treated like executive secrets. People make better decisions when they understand how the business is actually performing.

What we commit to in return.

  • Clear Expectations

You should know what winning looks like. Priorities, KPIs, responsibilities, and expectations should be explicit, not something you have to guess.

  • Real Ownership

We will give you room to make decisions, solve problems, and own meaningful outcomes. Autonomy grows as you demonstrate judgment and earn trust.

  • Direct Feedback

You will know where you stand. We give feedback quickly and directly because waiting six months to say the thing helps nobody.

  • Advancement Based on Impact

Tenure alone does not earn bigger opportunities. Consistent results, stronger judgment, and greater ownership do.

What happens after you apply.

Every qualified application is read by a person. The process is structured, role-specific, and designed to move quickly. Our target is to get from application to decision in under two weeks.

  1. Apply

Start with your resume and the basics. Show us what you have actually owned, changed, built, or delivered.

  2. Questionnaire

Complete a role-specific questionnaire. This is where we start looking for evidence, not buzzwords.

  3. First interview

A structured conversation focused on your track record, decisions, numbers, and the work you personally owned.

  4. Working session

For selected roles only. A practical exercise or working session designed to resemble the real job, not a trivia test.

  5. Final interview

A deeper conversation about expectations, how you work, how we work, and whether this is somewhere you can do your best work.

  6. Offer

If it is a yes on both sides, we move quickly and send a written offer.

Why I love working at Vert

“Vert believes in our mission, values, and process. It's not a company that says it wants to do one thing and then gets stuck doing another. We know where we want to go, and everyone on the team is encouraged to help us get there. It's rare to be part of an organization that values critical thinking, feedback, and culture while systematically ensuring mission growth and execution.”
Ryan Stoudt
“I love working at Vert 10000% because of the culture here. It's the perfect mix of people who enjoy having a good time and also really give a shit about the work they are doing. There is room for hard work and fun to live harmoniously.”
Dylan Heppner
“One of the many reasons I love working at Vert is the supportive team environment and the appreciation for our work. The personal and professional growth opportunities Vert offers help me build new skills and manage challenges. Knowing that the work we do makes a meaningful impact on the environment, helping large commercial and multifamily buildings identify energy and water efficiency measures, is something that motivates me every day.”
Sujata Dhakal
“I love working at Vert because I get to build, fix, push, and actually make thoughts into reality. I'm trusted to challenge bad ideas, chase better ones, and work with people who actually care. If you want to coast, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want to win, grow fast, and leave your mark on something, Vert is a hell of a place to do it.”
Nat Bell
“What I enjoy most about working here is the opportunity to take ownership, grow quickly, and make a tangible impact. The work challenges you to think critically, support clients through complex requirements, and continue developing both professionally and personally.”
Aaron Farris
